LETS SHARE THROUGH NETS
N.E.T.S
Overview
The
N.E.T.S Kingdom Extension Project is the strategy CityLight has been given
to fulfill its part in the current mobilization for city evangelization
and kingdom expansion in all areas of life. It is presently being tested
and implemented in Chicago. It was recieved by Pastor Lan during a time
of seeking God in prayer. Luke 5:1-10 suddenly took on a new meaning to
him, especially the fourth verse where Jesus used the word "nets.""Now
when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep,
and let down your nets for a draught."
Explaning
N.E.T.S
N.E.T.S
is our simple strategy for tapping into the greatest opportunity for reaching
out to the city and extending the kingdom of God, the individual believer
in his sphere of influence. Here is what N.E.T.S entails:
N
- Networking in Neighbourhoods
E - Examples in Excellence
T - Tapping into Talents
S
- Service in the Society
Networking in Neighbourhoods
This
is relational evangelism. We believe every member has been placed
in a circle of relationship by God for the purpose of extending influence
for the Kingdom. These circles include family and friends, the neighborhood
they live in, their places of work or schools. Every member is encouraged
to bring Christ into these circles following the Examples of Levi and
Andrew in Luke 5:27-32 and John 1: 40-41 respectively.
"And
after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting
at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. And he left
all, rose up, and followed him. And Levi made him a great feast in his
own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that
sat down with them. But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his
disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician;
but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance." (Luke 5:27-32)
"One of the two which heard John
speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first findeth
his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias,
which is, being interpreted, the Christ."
Examples
in Excellence
This
is lifestyle evangelism. We believe every member has been called
to live a non-compromising life of excellence, integrity and love which
is a great testimony for the Kingdom of God. So each member is encouraged
to cultivate an excellent spirit, putting their best into all that they
do; to always put a touch of excellence on everything that pertains to
them; to live lives of holiness. As they do this, a crop of believers
who will be leaders in various fields of life (education, politics, law,
medicine, entertainment, fashion, sports etc) will fill the land. The
showcasing of their excellence will bring glory to God and their stories
will attract many into the Kingdom of God.
" That
ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in
the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights
in the world..." (Phi 2:15)
Tapping
into Talents
This
is creative evangelism. We believe
every member has been given a unique gift which when tapped into, will
bring glory to God and also serve as a tool to expand the Kingdom of God.
So each member is encouraged and trained to discover and use their talents
not just within the church but outside the church context. Through this
means, spontaneous creative incentives like christian poetry clubs, christian
music groups, christian dance groups, sporting clubs and a host of others
will be pioneered by members in every part of the city to bring people
into the Kingdom of God.
"For
the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called
his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave
five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according
to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that
had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made
them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also
gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the
earth, and hid his lord's money."( Matt 25:14-18)
Service
in the Society
This
is servant evangelism. We believe we are salts and lights in
the society; so every member is encouraged to give into the society practically.
We do this through personal and corporate N.E.T.S assingments. Corporately,
we get involved in a monthly N.E.T.S service poject in an area of our
society. Examples are gifts to college freshmen, neighbourhood clean-up,
help to single mothers, prison visits, tipping at restaurants, drink distributions
at parks, stamp giveaway at post offices, and many others.
We
believe that as we show the love of Christ through practical service to
the society we are fulfilling the command of Jesus to go into all the
world and preach the gospel and to shine as lights through good works.
"Let
me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings
out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will
people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in
the garbage.
"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing
out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're
going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers,
you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting
you on a light stand.
Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand--shine! Keep
open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll
prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." (Mathew 5:13-16. The Message Translation)
