Frequently Asked Questions About CityLight
What is the purpose of a church?
A church is more than a building and it is not just a social gathering.
It is not owned by an individual. A local church is the members of the
body of Christ gathered together for the purpose of worship, fellowship,
prayer, instructions, encouragement, covering and evangelism. The church
should be a living family where everyone is welcome and covered from all
evil. It should be a haven where the hurting can find comfort, the lost
can find direction, the lonely can find friendship and the depressed can
find joy. It is the catalyst for change in the city it is located in and
God's army for winning the world to himself.
Why
another church when there are so many existing ones?
God is a God who wants to reach everyone through every option available.
He wants His lost sheep found by all means not wanting anyone to perish(2
Pet 3:9) His priority is on the lost sheep even more than those who have
been found. It takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people.
Planting new churches is biblical(Acts 13:1-4) It is a key to outreach,
providing more options for the unchurched. New churches stimulate and
challenge existing ones. We are encouraged to pray that more laborers
be thrust into the plentiful harvest of our cities which in part means
more churches starting.
